Kultur: Lines of conflict in a polarised Hungary, Berlin 12.03.2025
A failed final exam becomes a nationwide scandal? Anything can be instrumentalised if it helps the right-wing populist government, and right-wing politics is booming in Europe and beyond. “Explanation for Everything” is a sharp and detailed portrayal of a socially divided Hungary and a lesson about the growing populism in Europe.
This month on March 12 we’re taking our conversation beyond our kitchen table and into Kino Krokodil.
With journalist and project manager Kornélia Kiss we will talk about politics and society in her home country: How does the polarisation of the media in Hungary affect the social climate? What does the government’s media policy mean for Hungarian journalists and independent reporting? What role can film and art play in overcoming social conflict?
Please note: The film will be screened in Hungarian with German subtitles, and the discussion will be held in German.
The event is free of charge – registration is mandatory
