Termin: Exile Talks – Azerbaijan

What happens to journalism and art when freedom of expression is systematically suppressed?
In Azerbaijan, independent media has been forced into exile, at least 24 journalists are currently imprisoned for their work, and creative spaces such as theatres are tightly controlled by the state. Since 2023, pressure on critical voices has intensified — leaving journalists and artists to find new ways of working, creating, and reaching audiences across borders.

Exile Talks: Azerbaijan brings together Fatima Karimova (Mikroskop Media) and Elmin Badalov (actor and director). They will speak about censorship, exile, and resilience — and how journalism and art can survive when political pressure reshapes entire cultural systems. After the moderated discussion, as always there will be snacks, drinks and space for your questions and thoughts!

Moderated by Maria Kotsev, co-hosted by CORRECTIV.Exile and Gen East Podcast.
