Across Central Europe, press freedom is under siege. In Hungary, political control strangles independent voices. Serbian journalists face systematic intimidation. Slovakia’s independent media and civil society face systematic attacks.
These aren’t isolated incidents—they’re coordinated campaigns by authoritarian leaders desperate to secure their grip on power, knowing that criminal trials and accountability await many of them once they lose control.

Join us for an urgent conversation with frontline defenders of press freedom from Serbia, Hungary, and Slovakia:

Gabriela Kajtárová is a Slovak journalist specializing in political reporting and investigative journalism, currently working with 360tka, an independent media outlet. She has a strong record of defending editorial independence and is a two-time Slovak Journalism Award winner.

Attila Mong is a Hungarian journalist and Europe Representative for the Committee to Protect Journalists, based in Berlin. With over two decades of experience in investigative journalism, he focuses on press freedom, media development, and journalist safety across Europe.

Ivan Đurić is a Serbian political analyst at CRTA, specializing in democratic governance, media freedom, and institutional accountability in Serbia and the Western Balkans. He combines research and advocacy to promote transparency and strengthen civil society.
