Filmmaker Pietro Anton (Italo Disco Legacy) explores the origins and reverberations of electronic body music (EBM), a genre that was the missing link between post-punk, industrial and techno in the 1980s and filled dancefloors then and now with throbbing tracks such as “Alle gegen Alle” (DAF), “Los niños del parque” (Liaisons Dangereuses), “Join In The Chant” (Nitzer Ebb), “Headhunter” (Front 242) and many more.

Pietro Anton interviews the most important protagonists, such as Robert Görl & Gabi Delgado-Lopez (DAF), Beate Bartel (Liaisons Dangereuses), Richard 23 & Patrick Codenys (Front 242), Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Douglas McCarthy (who sadly passed away earlier this year) and Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb) and others, and portrays a style that is less characterized by soundscapes from the USA or the African diaspora. Rather, EBM evokes a “Europe” on both sides of the Iron Curtain and opened up a stage for acts from previously rather peripheral pop countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy or the former Yugoslavia.

Following the film, a selection of music clips from Eastern European EBM acts such as Borghesia, Vanessa et al. will be screened. The clips complement the documentary and show the genre’s lasting influence as a pan-European phenomenon.
