About the fellowship
The fellowship is awarded every year to one student in the final year of their MA degree or to one PhD student in the field of history, the social sciences, or other humanities. It is intended for applicants under 35 years of age studying at universities in the EU (excluding Romania), EFTA, UK, US, and Canada.
The fellow will be required to spend three months residing in Moldova. However, short research trips to Romania or/and Ukraine are allowed. The committee will provide contacts in Chişinău, as well as relevant logistical and academic advice and assistance.
At the end of the fellowship, a report on the fellow’s personal experience and research results should be sent to the selection committee. This report should be written in English. After a review by the resurse.net committee, it will be published on the resurse.net website.
The grant amounts to EUR 2,100 net, consisting of three monthly instalments of EUR 600 during the fellowship, and an additional EUR 300 upon review and acceptance of the final report. No additional allowances for international travel, medical insurance, accommodation, or any other living expenses will be provided.
Application procedure
The application should consist of a short narrative CV (of maximum 500 words) and a research proposal (of maximum 800 words) in English. A list of publications and a writing sample (article or review-essay in the field) should be attached to the application.
The CV should include the applicant’s year of birth, institutional affiliation, current academic status (including the year of the enrolment into the MA/PhD program), experience relevant to the research proposal (if applicable), and level of local language proficiency. The applicant should have at least an A2-level knowledge of Romanian or Russian. Knowledge of any minority language of the Republic of Moldova is an advantage (e.g. Ukrainian, Gagauz, Bulgarian, Romani, Yiddish).
The research proposal should focus on a topic directly connected to the past and/or present of Moldova. Topics relating to marginal(ized) social, ethnic, and religious groups, as well as to non-mainstream subjects are particularly encouraged. The applicant should show sufficient background knowledge of the context of the intended research. Research targets should be realistically achievable within three months. The proposal should specify the preferred period of research (three consecutive months at any time between 1 June, during the year of application, and 31 May, the following year).
The CV, research proposal, list of publications, and writing sample should be sent as separate PDF files. All file names should begin with the applicant’s surname.
Applications can be submitted between 1 February and 15 March to the following email address: contact@resurse.net. The application will be assessed by a committee composed of Philippe Blasen (University of Luxembourg), Andrei Cuşco (A.D. Xenopol Institute of History, Iași), Cristina Plămădeală (McGill University), and Jana Stöxen (University of Regensburg). The committee’s assessment of the applications will be based on the originality and the coherence of the research proposal. In the case of advanced PhD students, the applicant’s previous publication record will be taken into account. Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.
