What is needed to turn a political peace process into sustainable peace between Armenian and Azerbaijani societies? How can civil society, independent media and direct dialogue help rebuild trust after decades of conflict? And what role can the European Union play in supporting societal dialogue, democratic resilience and long-term cooperation in the South Caucasus?
We invite you to an open discussion bringing together perspectives from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Germany on these important questions, with the following speakers:
• Hovsep Khurshudyan – Chair of the Free Citizen Civic Initiatives Support Center (Armenia). His work focuses on civil society development, democracy, European integration and Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue.
• Nataliya Novakova – Executive Director of the Civil Society Forum (Germany). Her work focuses on human rights, democracy, strengthening civil society resilience, and fostering cross-border cooperation and solidarity.
• Emin Huseynov – Director of the Institute for Human Rights (Switzerland/Azerbaijan). His work focuses on human rights, freedom of expression, independent journalism and dialogue between Armenian and Azerbaijani civil society.
🎙 Moderator: Dr. Tsypylma Darieva – a senior researcher at Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), a co-founder of the ZOiS Caucasus Network and a member of the scientific advisory board of the JENA-CAUC project Resilience in the South Caucasus.

Together, we will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process today and look beyond political agreements to ask: How can peace become a process that also involves societies?

The panel discussion takes place within the framework of “Common Ground: Armenia-Azerbaijan Dialogue”, implemented by Dialogue for Understanding e.V. in partnership with the Free Citizen Civic Initiatives Support Center and the Institute for Human Rights.
