The Holocaust by Bullets—the mass shootings of Jews and Roma between 1941 and 1945—remains a blind spot in European remembrance culture. In the fifth year of Russia’s war of aggression, historic sites and memory culture are still under threat.
A new interactive e-learning program by the EVZ Foundation and Yahad-In Unum offers an opportunity to learn about the historical and political background of the Holocaust by Bullets and to teach it in classes or seminars—with a focus on media education. The course is based on the 15-minute short film “Holocaust in Kharkiv” by Lesya Kharchenko.
What remains of Jewish life in Ukraine? How does the Holocaust continue to affect Ukrainian places and people today? How and where can we encounter the past in the present? The course provides an interactive framework to reflect on these questions; a downloadable teaching guide offers specific suggestions how to address the topic with students.
