The book launch will bring into conversation five migration researchers to reflect on the current state of research on displacement from Ukraine and the situation of displaced Ukrainians, particularly in Germany:

Lidia Kuzemska (University of London / Ukrainian Catholic University; editor of the Dossier),
Nora Ratzmann (German Center for Integration and Migration, DeZIM),
Yuliya Byelikova (Dresden University of Technology), and
Valeria Lazarenko (University of Hamburg)

Moderator: Georges Khalil (Forum Transregionale Studien)

What are the challenges faced by forced migrants within and from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion? Ukrainians feel, live with, and live through uncertainties, whether emotionally, intellectually, or bodily. The new edited collection sheds light on the lives of displaced persons divided by time, space, and social context into a „before“ and „after“ the war. It analyses the uncertainties faces by war migrants and those who have decided to remain in Ukraine, as well as how people cope with these uncertainties in their daily lives. The book presents case studies from various European countries, making an important contribution to the growing literature on forced migration from Ukraine, and provides new insights into the underresearched areas of internal displacement and voluntary immobility in Ukraine.
